PBS is the station my children mainly rely on for their entertainment. PBS is a great network for both adult and children shows. They have fun and educational shows that I can be proud to have my children watch and be worry-free. They were founded over 47 years ago and continue to focus on positive, engaging and educational shows that are not influenced by the fund contributors. They have a strong array of positive shows for my children to enjoy from Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Peg + Cat, Super Why and many other great shows.
I like that Daniel’s Neighborhood is based on a show I am familiar with from my own childhood and can remember fondly. I can also show my children episodes of Mister Roger’s Neighborhood and have them relate based on the Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood characters and songs. It is great that each Daniel Tiger book or episode has a positive message, has relatable problem situations that children and parents or caregivers can discuss and learn from. They can lead to great conversations, possible solutions and can lead to fun songs for parents and children to enjoy. I like that these books are available in hardcover as they last longer from any wear and tear and from my daughter who at times goes through a tearing book pages phase. I don’t like that sometimes the messages are very simple but I understand at the same time they are age appropriate.
We recently watched the Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood: King Daniel for the Day DVD and my daughter who rarely likes TV loved the show. We then bought a few Daniel books to have a screen alternative and night time reading solution. My children get very little screen time but have tons of books. I try to foster any new interests my kids have but especially my daughter as she is still young and I want to focus on her reading interests and my son already loves books. She loves to have the Daniel Tiger book to sleep and to read it a few times throughout the day. It is also her go-to book to take on any car trips. The language is fairly easy for small children as they are impatient to just move on to the next picture.
